What are Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash Extensions are individual synthetic lashes similar to natural hair. Synthetic Eyelash used for eyelash extensions are in single form and have very natural characteristics. They are applied to your natural lashes accentuating the beauty of the eyes.
Professional eyelash extensions are bonded using a specific medical grade cyanoacrylate adhesive. Because of the nature of the adhesive, only a weight appropriate synthetic eyelash should be applied to a single natural eyelash hair without touching the skin. Those applying extensions should have professional training and certification along with a license in cosmetology or aesthetics. These credentials are required for protection to the eye and prevents the lashes from shedding prematurely with this cosmetic procedure.
What are Classic Eyelash Extensions?
Classic lashes are thicker in diameter compared to the lashes we use for Russian volume. Classic is the most common technique most lash artists do, this is the foundation certificate when learning the craft of eyelash extensions. During this procedure one extension is attached to one natural lash.
The extension weight diameters used for this technique range from 0.15-0.18. ANY diameters heavier than 0.20 WILL cause damage through long term and daily wear.
I recommend this look for clients that want a natural look which adds only length and to look natural, as if they have 1–3 coats of mascara. Guests that have naturally thick eyelash and a dense lash line are best fitted for this.
What are Russian Volume Eyelash Extensions?
Volume lashes use a different technique because you get 2-7 lash extensions on 1 natural lash. Carefully handmade made fans, customized for each individual lash and it’s growth stage. This technique is possible because the lashes used are (0.03-0.07 diameter) significantly finer and lighter in weight compared to the ones used in classic sets. This is why they look so feathery, fluffy, and full. It's also best of both worlds of the two because its adding length and fullness.
(Maria is known for her work in this highly specific technique.)
It is the most recommend technique because it’s more customizable than the classic eyelash extensions. The volume fans are handmade for the look you want from natural to dramatic, but for the goal of fullness this is the best option.
Will Eyelash Extensions damage my natural lashes?
The application of eyelash extensions, when done professionally will not damage your lashes. Only if lashes are applied properly and to each individual lash, they won’t be forced out of the hair follicle prematurely.
However what can and will damage your lashes is rubbing or pulling on the lash extensions. For those with allergy problems who tend to rub excessively on your eyes, lash extensions may not be for you.
The procedures in both Classic and Russian Volume techniques are performed so safely that many clients experience that the extensions actually act as a protection to the natural lash since they learn not to rub, mash or pick at the eye area.
How long do the Extensions last?
Factors such as eyelash growth, lifestyle and general after care will affect how long the lashes last. Your natural lashes are hair so they shed with the hair cycle, just like the hair on the head. The extensions attached will shed along with the natural lashes. The hair cycle is an individual process. We shed an average of 3-5 lashes per eye everyday. We also grow a new lash to replace the one that fell out.
How do I maintain my eyelash extensions?
The fills are required for maintaining the full set. Everyone has their preference on their up keep, so I price by how many weeks it's been since our previous appointment.
If you average the hair cycle shed, it is recommended to come in every 2-3 weeks to get them filled for upkeep. This is similar to the frequency needed for maintenance of acrylic nails.
With phenomenal aftercare, extensions can last all the way up to 4 weeks before they are all completely shed with your natural cycle, but everything depends on your personal hair cycle, medications, and aftercare.
Can I remove the extensions on my own?
Please do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own, seek professional help from your technician. We will not be held liable for any damage that you may cause by trying to remove the eyelash extensions on your own.
